brief
Due to Taiwan’s location in the choke point in Southeast Asia and West Pacific, the provided air service is critical:In order to offer secure air service to domestic and foreign aerocrafts flying to the zone, Taiwan Flight Information Region was thus established on June 15th, 1952.

On March 26th 1953, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) reached an agreement. During 18th Session of the Council, it was decided to assign Taiwan Flight Information Region. The Civil-Aeronautics-Administration of R.O.C government would possess the managerial authority and would provide aviation control service. The borderlines are 21 degree N latitude in South, reaching "Manila Flight Information Region", 29 degree N latitude in North, abutting "Daegu Flight Information Region", 123 degree E longitude in East, adjacent to "Naha Flight Information Region", and 117.5 degree E longitude in West, neighboring "Hong Kong Flight Information Region". Later on August 16th in same year, "Taiwan Flight Information Region" was formally renamed as "Taipei Flight Information Region" (Taipei FIR).

On October 27th 1955 when ICAO was holding the Pacific Air Control Meeting in Australia, The revision was passed that Taipei Flight Information Region would be extended to 124 degree E longitude in East, which caused the current range.

In order to enhance administrative efficiency, unite the chain of command, and utilize human, property, and financial resources to reach the highest competency and quality, CAA consolidated four units into Air Navigation and Weather Services (ANWS). These four previously CAA-subordinated included Flight Control Division, Aircraft and Telecommunication Services, Air Navigation Services, and Taipei Aviation Weather Services.

ANWS is responsible for , in accordance with rules of ICAO and international standards, offering all of the integrated security services related to air navigation information, air navigation control, air navigation weather, aviation telecommunication, and terrestrial navigation facility to domestic and foreign military/ civil aircrafts inside Taipei FIR so the aviation security and ease of the air transportation can be ensured.
